Minor Hotels Announces Management of RAKxa Fully Integrative Wellness & Medical Retreat’s Luxury Villas in Bangkok
Minor Hotels, an international hotel owner, operator and investor, has announced a partnership with M.K. Real Estate Development and VitalLife Scientific Wellness Centre (a subsidiary of Bumrungrad International Hospital) to launch RAKxa Fully Integrative Wellness and Medical Retreat – a ground-breaking development that will cement Thailand’s position as a world class medical wellness destination.
Launching in December 2020, RAKxa was conceived as a fully sustainable medical wellness retreat within Bang Krachao on the Chao Praya River, known locally as the 'Green Lung' of Bangkok. The concept, at the crossroads of science and tradition, aims to deliver bespoke healthcare in a relaxing environment.
RAKxa’s 60 private villas, upholstered in Jim Thomson silks and furnished with handcrafted pieces, will be managed by Minor Hotels. In December, 27 garden villas at 80sqm will welcome the retreat’s first guests to private gardens with an ever-changing ecosystem of indigenous plants and flowers. Pool villas and a presidential villa are set to launch in early 2021.
“It is an honour to be chosen to support M.K. Real Estate, one of the leading residential developers in Thailand, in their vision to design a medical wellness retreat of this level unseen before,” commented William E Heinecke, Chairman & Founder of Minor International, owning company of Minor Hotels. “At a time when customers are reprioritising their health, the hospitality industry’s pivot to wellness is no longer a trend but a necessity. Refocusing on health is happening on the community level too, making the arrival of pioneering concepts such as RAKxa all the more important.”
“As customers choose to defer to respected healthcare professionals in matters of wellness and lifestyle change, our combined expertise will be of tremendous value to Thai residents and visitors alike,” continued Heinecke. “Sophisticated and well-versed in holistic therapies, today’s luxury travellers expect their wellness programmes to address health issues spanning the entire life cycle, rather than merely offer jetlag remedies.”
Separated from the rest of Bangkok by a winding river, RAKxa is accessible by both boat and car and is located approximately an hour from both Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang International Airports.

About RAKxa's Wellness Cuisine
RAKxa's wellness cuisine is centred on the ingredients and great emphasis is placed on their origins, the value of seasonality and the benefits of sustainable eating. The approach to food is guided by an anti-inflammatory philosophy and based on a deep understanding that gut and body imbalances are caused by the average modern diet. Menus at RAKxa help the body eliminate harmful toxins and food causing inflammation. There will be two restaurants at RAKxa. The main restaurant Unam will serve international healthy cuisine without compromising on taste. On-hand will be a nutritionist offering guidance and assistance to ensure each dining experience is exciting and delicious, whilst also keeping in-line with guests tailored programme requirements. The speciality Asian restaurant Ukhao draws inspiration from local ancient wisdom in traditional recipes from Thailand and neighbouring countries including Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and China. Ukhao's tasting menus pay homage to the region’s masterful use of spices and wild herbs, highlighted in curries and broths. Set to launch in 2021.
