Oaks on Lonsdale
We stayed here for 3 nights for a Melbourne holiday. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a balcony off our room. Self-contained kitchen with all the amenities you need. Very comfy king size bed. The room was clean. The location was great. Right near parliament station and easy access to the city circle tram and visitor shuttle. We would definitely return.

1966: The Year That Changed The World
1966 was the year that Australia sent a Task Force to Vietnam, the year the first National Servicemen served in the war and the year of the battle of Long Tan. Australia felt the heat of the Cold War and the throes of a youth revolution, in the year the first baby boomers came of age. Fifty years on, this exhibition tells the story of a year that changed Australia and the world. 1966, the year that changed the world is one of three temporary exhibitions in the Galleries of Remembrance, located in the undercroft beneath the Shrine of Remembrance, Victoria’s largest and most visited war memorial of National Significance. The Galleries feature over 800 objects, photographs, uniforms and works of art illustrating the experiences of Australians at war and in peacekeeping operations, from the 1850's to the present day.
Fed Square Laughter Club
- Date: 21 August 2016 - 18 December 2016
- Venue: 2 Swanston Street
Join in a 30 minute laughter session at Federation Square at 11:00am on the first and third Sunday of each month. Laughter Clubs come together for a session and people laugh for no reason without having to resort to jokes or humour. The sessions last about half an hour and are mostly held outdoors. They are run along the lines established by Dr Madan Kataria, who founded the global laughter movement 14 years ago with one club, and there are now over 5,000 clubs worldwide. Everyone is welcome to experience first-hand the fun of a laughter session, and gain the benefits of laughter, which improves the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social health of individuals, workplaces, and society.
2016 Architecture Commission: M@ STUDIO Architects
- Date: 14 October 2016 - 02 April 2017
- Venue: 180 St Kilda Road
A playful reinvention of the suburban car wash is the concept behind the 2016 NGV Architecture Commission built in the NGV’s Grollo Equiset Garden this spring. Designed by Melbourne-based M@ STUDIO Architects, the ephemeral structure is titled Haven’t you always wanted to run through all that foam at the car lovers? With dimensions taken directly from an existing car wash in Blackburn, the design transplants an object of everyday use and familiarity into the unfamiliar surroundings of an art gallery. In place of cement and fluorescent lighting, the structure has a lightweight steel body with walls made of layered cricket netting and a translucent poly-carbonate roof. The evocative structure includes live ‘bays’ with lanes of bright pink astro turf complete with rubberised humps and road markings. Topped by a glittering ‘car wash’ sign and illuminated at night, the spaces are used for events, talks, live music performances and more over spring and summer as well as providing a place for Melbournians to gather, play and daydream. The whimsical structure will also include two bays replete with hanging curtains of red plastic, while another will diffuse mist recreating the experience of being at the car wash.
