Family Fun Days in Brisbane

If you are planning a family weekend getaway to Brisbane in the coming weeks, there are a host of creative, educational and most importantly FUN things to see and do. Here are just a few of our picks:

GOMA turns 10

The Queensland Gallery of Modern Art in South Bank has a range of wondrous experiences that will capture the imagination of the young and the young at heart!Be sure to visit the Pip & Pop Rainbow Bridge in the main foyer and explore the four imaginary worlds incorporating crystals, sequins, artificial flowers and plastic trinkets. Highlights of this museum’s birthday celebrations include Nusra Latif Qureshi's Enchanted Spaces at the Children's Art Centre which introduces the traditional techniques of Mughal miniature painting to a younger audience and gives the kids a chance to create a work of their own.  Also at the Children’s Art Centre is Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir: Mirror Mirror. This interactive work by the Icelandic artist  also known as Shoppy features an amazing collection created synthetic hair. And with specially designed templates, children are invited to create their own personal paper hairstyle – definitely an eye-catching time for all!

GLASS: art design architecture

The QUT Museum showcases 23 works by contemporary Australian artists, designers, and architects, exploring themes including the love of nature and recycling and highlighting the material’s presence in daily life – from jewelry to buildings.

Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium

A perennial favourite, this fascinating facility located in Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens, features a tour of Brisbane’s current night sky under the 12.5 metre diameter Cosmic Skydome. For more information: http://mhg.to/tgja1

World Science Festival (22-26 March 2017)

Let your kids discover their inner Einstein at Street Science at South Bank with exhibitions and experiments covering everything from fossils to drones and slime. Another highlight is the Turtle Hatching at Queensland Museum. Witness the magic of Mother Nature first-hand as Loggerhead and Flatback turtles eggs hatch and the cute little hatchlings emerge.
